Our Responsible Use of Generative AI at Staellinika

At Staellinika, we are deeply committed to delivering authentic, high-quality Greek heritage language learning tailored especially for the global Greek diaspora. Every core element of our platform—from lessons, grammar explanations, vocabulary, cultural insights, exercises, and audio recordings—is 100% created by real people: our dedicated team of experienced educators, linguists, visual artists, animators, voice actors, and cultural experts. No artificial intelligence is used to generate, write, or record any of our primary teaching content or audio.

We believe that preserving the human touch is essential for a meaningful, culturally accurate, and emotionally resonant learning experience—especially when reconnecting with heritage language and cultural identity.

That said, we recognize that carefully applied AI can serve as a helpful, on-demand support tool for learners. We therefore integrate it in a very targeted, transparent, and ethical manner, always ensuring it remains strictly subordinate to human expertise and our pedagogical standards.

Where and how we use Generative AI

AI is used exclusively in one course: Beginners Greek (the general adult/teen beginners course, suitable for ages roughly 13+). At any point in the course, learners can type a question about the grammar, vocabulary, phrases, or concepts covered in the lessons. Even though Staellinika offers courses taught in Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, and German, the AI feature is currently available only in English.

For the Question - Answer AI feature we employ a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach, which can be described simply as follows:

• Your question is processed securely.
• The system searches only within our custom, human-authored course database (lessons, explanations, vocabulary lists, example sentences, etc.) and retrieves the most relevant verified passages.
• It generates a concise, clear answer by summarizing and presenting information directly from those human-created materials—no external internet sources, no invented facts, no broad language model creativity.
• Questions must relate to the course content. The system does not answer general knowledge questions, translate arbitrary text, converse freely, or discuss topics outside the Beginners Greek curriculum.

This closed-loop design delivers three key safeguards:

• Accuracy & pedagogical alignment — Answers remain fully consistent with Staellinika’s carefully designed curriculum.
• No hallucination risk — Because nothing is generated from general training data or the open web.
• Cultural & educational integrity — Every piece of information traces back to content vetted by Greek native speakers and educators.

AI Generated Visuals

In select places across the platform (not specific to the Beginners Greek course), we use AI image-generation tools to assist in creating non-educational decorative elements such as backgrounds, textures, patterns, or simple shapes.

Every single AI-assisted visual undergoes mandatory human review, editing, and approval by our design team. We ensure the final result aligns with our aesthetic standards, educational appropriateness, and respect for Greek cultural values.

Data Privacy Safeguards

The Question - Answer AI feature continues to comply with our data privacy policy, as it is described in our Privacy Policy statement. In particular:

• Questions and the AI-generated answers (drawn solely from course content) are stored in your account so you can revisit them later.
• Only you can view your personal question history.
• Authorized course administrators may access anonymized or aggregated data (or specific entries when needed) solely to monitor feature quality, detect issues, and help improve future course content.
• We apply data minimization: no unnecessary personal information is used in AI processing.

Note: We do not use AI to profile learners, make automated decisions with legal effect, or train external models on your inputs.

Our Commitment Going Forward

We will keep AI usage minimal, transparent, and always in service of human-centered learning. Any future expansion (e.g., adding QA to other courses or source languages) will follow the same strict principles:

• Rigorous testing for accuracy and cultural sensitivity
• Full disclosure
• Continued priority of 100% human-created or authentic learning content
• Regular review to ensure alignment with evolving ethical standards and regulations on Generative AI
